Los Angeles sbarca a Venezia! theplaceB

🇮🇹 Anche tu ti lasci conquistare facilmente dal fascino californiano di Los Angeles? Allora Venezia ha ciò che fa per te! Fino al 22 novembre 2015 è in corso la 56ª Biennale di Venezia , uno dei momenti migliori per visitare la città unica al mondo in una versione altrettanto unica. La manifestazione si concentra nella zona Arsenale-Giardini dove ci sono i padiglioni più famosi, ma noi abbiamo preferito invertire la rotta verso la mostra “We must risk LA” proposta dall’organizzazione bardoLA in collaborazione con l’Accademia delle belle arti di Venezia, allestita presso i Magazzini del Sale. “We must risk LA” fa parte dei cosiddetti Eventi collaterali della Biennale, cioè mostre ed esposizioni dislocate nel mezzo della città in locations particolari e spesso promosse da importanti enti e istituzioni senza fini di lucro. Meno in rilievo rispetto ai padiglioni principali ma non meno interessanti, anzi secondo noi sono davvero molto suggestivi! Fra tutti abbiamo scelto questa. Perché? Perché l’idea che l’arte contemporanea così moderna e sfavillante come quella di Los Angeles potesse adattarsi allo stile antico e storico dell’affascinante Laguna ci suonava davvero interessante. E alla fine si è confermata un’esperienza emozionante.

🇬🇧 Do you easily let yourself be conquered by Los Angels’ charm? Then, Venice has got what you need! Till 22 November 2015 you can visit the 56th Biennale di Venezia, one of the best moment to visit the unique city in a unique version. The exhibition is mainly based in Arsenale-Giardini districts where you can find the most famous pavilions, but we deciced to turn the tide to the exposition “We must risk delight” presented by bardoLA organization in collaboration with Academy of Fine Arts of Venice, placed in Magazzini del Sale. “We must risk delight” is part of Collateral Events, exhibitions and events deployed everywhere in Venice in particular locations and patronized by important authorities and non-profit organizations. Less famous then principal pavilions but as much suggestive! Why we chose this one? Because the idea to approach contemporary and explosive art of L.A. with antique and elegant charm of Venice sounded so interesting. And it was very interesting for real!

🇮🇹 Partiamo con le presentazioni. bardoLA: è un’organizzazione no-profit con sede a Los Angeles, ma L.A. è solo il punto di partenza in quanto il suo scopo consiste nel diffondere la creatività della propria città in tutto il mondo promuovendo lo scambio artistico e culturale internazionale. Per fare questo vengono studiati progetti ed esposizioni itineranti in giro per il mondo. Cosa significa bardo? Il “bardo” a cui si riferisce è legato al principio Tibetano e indica uno stato di transizione tra 2 vite. E’ una sorta di luogo parallelo di cambiamento dove il nostro modo abituale di vedere la vita è come sospeso. Questo luogo può essere angosciante e divertente allo stesso tempo, ma ciò che lo rende unico e importante è che da’ l’opportunità di meditare e maturare. Da questo antico concetto bardoLA trae ispirazione ideando spazi che incoraggino l’esplorazione creativa. Nelle varie esposizioni l’opera d’arte è pensata come visione personale che ogni artista ha della società in cui viviamo, e riunirle tutte assieme crea appunto una sorta di mondo parallelo.

🇬🇧 Let’s start with introductions. bardoLA: it’s a non-profit organization based in Los Angeles, but L.A. is only the start-point because its intent consists in spreading L.A. creativity all over the world promoting international cultural change. To do this, they study projects and traveling exhibits. What’s “bardo”? “Bardo” is a Tibetan theory and means a place of transition between 2 lives. It’s a kind of parallel world of transformation where our usual way of thinking about our life is on edge. This place could be worrying and pleasant at the same time, but most of all it’s important because it gives the opportunity to grow up. bardoLA draws inspiration from this ancient concept and creates spaces that encourage creative exploration. In these exhibitions artwork become the personal point of view of the artist about the society where we live today, and the combination of all these artworks generates a parallel world.

🇮🇹 “A brief for the defense”: è la poesia di Jack Gilbert, importante scrittore statunitense finalista anche del premio Pulitzer per la poesia, scomparso nel 2012. La sua poesia è la fonte principale di questa esposizione dalla quale prende ispirazione anche il nome “We must risk delight”. I suoi versi richiamano tutti a riconoscere ogni momento di piacere in ogni momento, specialmente in quelli più cupi. Il mondo che ci circonda viene descritto con immagini oscure e tristi alternate a istanti di gioia fortissima. E tutto ciò dovrebbe servire come esempio nel concepire la felicità come fonte indispensabile di libertà in risposta alla crudeltà che invade la società odierna. Se questi concetti ti interessano particolarmente puoi trovare più contenuti nel libro di Gilbert intitolato “Refusing Heaven“.

🇬🇧 “A brief for the defense”: the poem of Jack Gilbert, important american poet and writer, expired in 2012. His poem is the source of inspiration of this exposition and also the name “We must risk delight” reminds to it. His words recall everyone to identify delight in every moment, especially in the darkest. The world that surrounds us has been described with serious images alternated with strong instants of joy. It might be an example to understand happiness as an essential source of freedom in response to cruelty of today’s society. Hyper colored paintings are alternated with black and white portraits that seem to seek and laugh truly. What do they want to communicate?
